Paying For Hearing Amplifiers With HSA or FSA

Many people don’t realize the advantage of paying for hearing amplifiers with an HSA. By using an HSA, you’re using pre-tax dollars. For example, someone in the 28% tax bracket will save $140 for every $500 spent on hearing devices.

An HSA (Health Savings Account) is a special, tax-advantaged medical account. You can withdraw your funds at any time to pay for extra medical expenses that may not be covered by an insurance provider. You deposit funds tax-free and later pay for a variety of services and equipment, including hearing amplifiers and approved accessories.

Don’t just use your HSA for hearing amplifiers

Keep in mind that, in addition to the hearing amplifiers themselves, you can also buy replacement batteries and other accessories with an HSA. Amazon makes it easy to shop for these and other HSA-approved items online. It was only recently that these items could be purchased on Amazon with an HSA debit card. Since then, they’ve wasted no time making it as clear as possible.

When shopping on Amazon from a desktop, scroll down in the filters menu on the left-hand side until you find the box labeled FSA or HSA Eligible. Tick that box to instantly see only the products you’re searching for which are available for purchase with your HSA debit card.

From the Amazon app on a mobile device, search for the item you’re shopping for and once the results are available, tap on the Filter.  Scroll down until you see FSA or HSA Eligible, tap the toggle, and enjoy worry free shopping.

Make sure to double-check the Amazon product page for HSA eligibility. Amazon doesn’t boldly advertise this information, but you can find it easily enough. From a desktop or mobile device, look under the Buy It Now button to ensure the item is a qualified HSA purchase.

Added to the convenience of shopping for your hearing amplifiers online, you can also buy many accessories with your HSA account on Amazon. We’ve scoured the pages to find some of the best buys for hearing device purchases with your HSA.

While shopping with your HSA debit card comes with the utmost convenience, be sure to use caution.  Even the smallest unapproved purchase with your HSA debit card results in some hefty taxes and fees. Just one more reason to play it safe and only make your purchases from a reputable source with clear labeling of HSA qualified items.
