MDHearing is one of the biggest names in over the counter hearing aids. Actually, they’ve been around for much longer than bona fide OTC hearing aids. Before the law change, MDHearing created high quality hearing amplifiers, much like companies such as Otofonix and Neosonic.
This means MDHearing has been in business for a long time, but now reaps the benefits of the changing landscape. In this article, I don’t want to focus on MDHearing reviews, but assess the company itself. We’ll take a look at basic information, discuss how the company’s warranty and other service components hold up, and finally discuss some products in brief.

Company information
The company started around 2010, when Sreek Cherukuri decided to develop a one-size-fits-most hearing aid that offered a solution for most people with hearing loss without the need for a professional fitting or extensive hearing test – the whole idea behind over the counter products.
This first model, the MDHearingAid Acoustitone PRO, is no longer available, but caught a lot of attention. A second model, the MDHearing AIR, is still part of the company’s lineup. Other models, such as the MDHearing VOLT, came later.
Now, one of the big benefits of MDHearing over other companies is that it’s run by real people. Let me explain. Most companies are faceless corporations, but MDHearing actually involves real people in their business. I don’t think these people are necessarily involved in the day-to-day operations, but it’s a step up from not ever seeing a face related with the company.
MDHearing products are designed in the US and manufactured overseas.
MDHearing warranty and customer service
Not that much stands out here. Like most reputable companies, MDHearing offers a one-year manufacturing warranty and a standard 45-day trial. Some new models, such as the VOLT MAX when it was first introduced, come with an automatic extended warranty, but the standard is one year.
Customer service is US-based, and can be reached at a toll-free number. Lifetime support is free.
MDHearing also has a free hearing test, which can give you an indication of your hearing. Some companies use this test to sell you their models, but my test came back exactly how I expected it, and they had nothing to sell me.
Buying MDHearing replacement parts

When you’re checking out, you get the option for a protection plan, which covers all types of accidental loss and damage without a deductible. For their most expensive model, it’s $10 a month, which is a fairly good deal, especially because it can be canceled at any time. If you’re as clumsy as I am, that’s worth it.
I wouldn’t order the UV clean and dry box (for $100), nor any of the other accessories at checkout. Replacement parts and accessories are available for each model, even after models are no longer available.
Product information and comparisons
MDHearing has had a number of products over the years, and now features three main models: the MD VOLT, the MD NEO, and the MD AIR. There’s also the MD VOLT MAX, which is one of the best hearing aids in 2023, but not always available.
The MDHearing NEO is the company’s newest model and already one of the most popular options. The CIC configuration means there are fewer features, but this is compensated by the overall quality and the customer support, which makes the NEO a far better alternative than its peers. This is part of why the MD NEO is the best budget hearing aid for 2023.
Another award-winning hearing aid, the MDHearing VOLT MAX, is one of the best overall picks, but frequently sells out. It combines most popular features in modern hearing aids, like self-fitting technology and smart controls, but costs less than $700. Great value for money, which is why it’s my pick for best value for money hearing aid in 2023.

The MDHearing AIR wasn’t as great as the above two, but has seen an update in 2023 that makes it relevant again. With a price point of just under $300, it’s this company’s basic model that offers nothing truly exciting, but good quality for a fine price.
Then there’s the MD VOLT, which is the MAX’s boring little brother. It has all the basics, but also comes with a travel case to recharge the hearing aids. Of all the models, this one stands out least.
Frequently Asked Questions about MDHearing
Is MDHearing a good company?
Yes, they’ve been in business since 2009, which is a very long time in the industry (notwithstanding companies that offer prescription hearing aids). The company is backed by real people and has good support.
Where are MDhearing hearing aids made?
Although the company is headquartered in the US and has its support team and experts from the US as well, the products are manufactured overseas.
Where can I find the free hearing test?
On the company website, they offer a free and accurate hearing test for a first assessment. Afterwards, you might be invited to a free consultation call.
How long do MDHearing hearing aids last?
Generally, hearing aids will last you anywhere from 3-7 years. MDHearing models fall neatly in the middle, with an expected five years. By that time you’re usually due for a renewal anyway, and advancing technologies will have made better models more affordable.
